small projects :: pequeños projectos

What is it about finishing those projects that have been sitting there forever that feels so good? I love the feeling of acomplishment- To be able to squeeze a little sewing here and there. Ah, so nice!
Por que sera que se siente tan rico cuando uno termina esos pequeños projectos que tiene tiempo ahi, parados...esperandonos? Me encanta como se siente poder encontrar un poquito de tiempo por aqui y por alla para poder coser. Que ricura!


Like finally fixing that hole on one of our oh so very comfy towel mats. I really didn't knwo what I was going to do...just let the cutting and sewing gide me. And this was the result:
Como por fin arreglar el agujero de una de los tapetes de toalla que tenemos. No tenia ni idea de como lo iba arreglar...solo deje que mis tijeras y aguja me guiaran. Y este fue el resultado:


I like the quilt feel to it. Nice and comfy.
Me encanta el estilo de quilt que tiene. Suavesito y cómodo.

And getting the kids costumes ready. This is an original german little girl's dress that my mother-in-law bought for my husband's twin sister when they lived in Europe. Isn't it cute? I had to fix the hooks, add the ribbon and make a new apron. My sweet A loves it. Little Ri is going to wear his papi's lederhosen, hat, wool stocking and shirt. Totally cool!
Y preparando los disfraces de Halloween para mis nenes. Este es un vestido original de Alemania que mi suegra le compro a la hermana gemela de mi esposo cuando vivían en Europa. No esta increíble? Le arregle los botones, añadí listón y le cosí un mandil nuevo. A mi nena le encanta! Y mi pequeño Ri va a usar el lederhosen (unos shorts de gamuza con tirantes Alemán), gorro, calcetines de lana y camisa que eran de su papi. Totalmente padrisimo!

And while I was sewing some cloth napkings in our quest for living greener. Little Ri asked me to make a little table cloth and napkins for their table. How could I refuse.
Y mientras cosía unas servilletas (para continuar con nuestra esfuerzo de ser mas nobles con nuestro planeta) mi pequeño Ri me pidió que también le cosiera un mantelito y servilletas para su mesita. Imposible de resistir.

Ever since I moved to the east coast I have learned to truly appreciate those words. Before I did, I would swear I would never live in a place that snowed or was too cold. Luckily the cold has become bearable and the snow? well, now that I have little ones I really enjoy it! (Its also nice it snows only a few times a winter. Just enough to really enjoy it and not drive you crazy because you are stuck indoors for days.) I've also learned to appreciate every season, and what each one brings with it. From the way we do things to what we eat. Fall is my second favorite (after summer). It is full of color! The air feels fresh and new, the sky is a beautiful blue and at times covered with rain clouds and the fact that there are hardly any bugs makes it that much better. And so fall is the time were we take more nature walks, have picnics and explore the outdoors. Yesterday we did just that...
Desde que vivo en la costa Este de los Estados Unidos he aprendido a verdaderamente apreciar el significado de esas palabras. Antes de vivir acá, juraba nunca viviría en un lugar frió y que nevara. Afortunadamente, he aprendido a tolerar el frió y la nieve? pues ahora que tengo nenes la disfruto mas! (También me gusta que nieva lo suficiente para disfrutarla y no volver a uno loco por tener que quedarse encerrado en casa por días). También he aprendido a apreciar cada temporada, y lo que cada una trae con ella. Desde a manera de hacer las cosas hasta lo que comemos. Después de el verano, el otoño es mi segunda temporada favorita. Esta lleno de colores! El aire se siente fresco y nuevo, el cielo es un color azul hermoso, y el echo de que casi no hay bichos por todas partes lo hace mucho mejor. Es que en el otoño es cuando mas salimos a pasear, a comer al aire fresco y a explorar. Ayer hicimos exactamente eso...

Fall. It is all about the colors!
Otoño. Esta en los colores!

fall :: otoño

It is really starting to feel like fall around here. You can see and feel it everywhere. In the leaves spread trough out our lawn, in the some-times bitter cold days (though we still have had some odd warm days), in the events we have attended and in the nice-warm-yummy food we have been eating. Ah, fall! Although summer is by far my favorite season, there is just something about fall. I especially love the colors. The beautiful, beautiful colors of red, orange green, yellow, brown. All so lovely.
:: La verdad que ya se esta sintiendo como otoño por acá. Se puede ver y sentir por todas partes. En las hojas que cubren nuestro jardín, en los días fríos (aunque raramente hemos tenido unos cuantos cálidos), en los tipos de eventos que hemos asistido y en la comida rica de temporada que estamos disfrutando.

**A nice trip to the local county fair near my father-in-law's farm. :: Un agradable viaje a la feria local, cerca del rancho de mi suegro.

















**Enjoying fall nature walks. I love that there are NO (or very little) bugs out. Love nature, hate bugs! :: Disfrutando de nuestros paseos de naturaleza. Me encanta que durante esta temporada casi no hay (o hay muy pocos) mosquitos o bichos. Amo la naturaleza, pero odio los bichos!

My sweet blogger friend RosaMaria from La Vida Compartida is celebrating her 100th post. I have been following her since the start of her first blog. I enjoy (through her photos) re-visiting all those oh-so-wonderful places that I love in Guadalajara, Mexico. She also has such a gift for quilting, her work is truly admirable (and she hasn't been sewing all that long!). To celebrate she is giving a way a very nice handmade Rae style handbag. There are two you can choose from, I love them both! So please pay her a visit and enjoy the stay!
:: Mi querida amiga blogger Rosamaria de La Vida Compartida esta celebrando sus 100 posts. He estado leyendo su blog desde que comenzó. Por medio de el (y de sus fotos) disfruto volver a visitar mi querido Guadalajara, México y conocer nuevo lugares al cual me encantaría visitar. También tiene un gran talento con lo de quilting, su trabajo es admirable (y lo increíble que solo tiene poco tiempo cosiendo!). Para celebrar esta regalando una linda bolsa estilo Rea. Hay dos de las cuales puedes escoger. Me encantan las dos! Es que pasen a visitarla y disfruten de un gran viaje por Guadalajara y su linda casita!

farm :: rancho

We spent a lovely weekend at my father-in-law's new farm. Both R and Ri have spend plenty of days there, but it was the first time A and I went with them and we both loved it! It is a lovely farm. 86 acres in all. Woods, fields and tons of wonderfully old buildings. Did I ever tell you how much I love taking pictures of old buildings? Well, sorry to say, you are in for a surprise! I took tons of photos and it was sooo hard far me to to choose which to post, so I posted just about ALL! (of the old buildings, that is. )
:: Pasamos el fin de semana en el rancho nuevo de mi suegro. R y Ri ya han ido varias veces, pero esta fue la primera ves que A y yo fuimos y nos encanto! Es un lindo rancho de 86 acres. Rodeado de bosque, campos y edificios antiguos y maravillosos. Alguna ves te he contado cuanto me gusta tomar fotos de edificios viejos? Pues siento decirte que te sorprenderás! Pues tome tantas fotos, que me fue difícil escoger cuales enseñarles, y pues casi casi subí todas! (las de los edificios, claro.)






This is the newer part of the farm. It has a not-so-old farm house (but still pretty darn old). But that is not what I want to show you...I want to show you the beautiful old-OLD buildings...
:: Esta es la parte mas nueva del rancho donde se encuentra la casa mas nueva (pero también bastante viejita). Pero eso no es lo que les quiero enseñar, no, lo que les quiero enseñar son los edificios mas viejos y maravillosos...


It use to be a working tabacco farm at one point and through out the woods you can see the history of it all. R took me for a walk. It was full of natures beauty entwined with those human made pieces left behind.
:: Originalmente en este rancho sembraban tabaco. Y por todo el bosque puedes encontrar pedacitos de la historia de este rancho. R me llevo a caminar. Todo estaba lleno de la belleza de la naturaleza al igual que entrelazado con las cosas echas por humanos.










This piece has been there for so long a tree has grown through it! My husband teased that the tree is the security lock to keep anyone from stealing it. Ha!
:: Esta pieza tiene tanto tiempo ahí que le ha crecido un árbol por en medio! Mi esposo bromea que es para que no se la roben. Jaja!



Some old pieces of furniture and odds and ends left behind at the old farm house.
:: Unos muebles y cositas que han dejado atrás en la casa de rancho antigua.

This is the original farm house. It is quite dangerous to go inside, but we still ventured in and I managed to take some pictures (as seen above).
:: Esta es la casa de rancho original. Estaba medio peligroso entrar, pero de todo modos entramos con mucho cuidado y tome unas cuantas fotos de lo que encontré adentro (visto en las dos fotos de arriba).





An old barn where they use to keep some goats and who knows what else!
:: Una granja vieja donde tenían chivos y no se que mas!


An old gas tank, just sitting there in the woods.
:: Un tanque te gas, ahí en el medio del bosque.

I am sure there is more to discover. (We only covered about a third of the land.) I can't wait to go back and find more wonderful things/ building to take photos of. How fun!
:: Estoy mas que segura que hay mucho mas por descubrir (pues solo caminamos como un tercio de la propiedad). Ya tengo ganas de regresar y a si poder encontrar mas cosas maravillosas y poder tomar mas fotos. Que divertido!
