...that I brought back from California!  (And all under $30 dollars!)

...que traje de California. (¡Y todo me salio menos de $30!)

I didn't have time to make a trip to the LA Fabric Distric, but I did set a day especially to visit my favorite swap meet (flea market, for those on the East Coast).  Yes indeed.  There is no way I can go to California and not bring back, or in this case, ship to my self two boxes full of sewing goodies.

No tuve tiempo de ir al centro de Los Angeles al LA Fabric Distric a comprar telas, pero si me asegure de dedicar un mañana a visitar mi swap meet favorito. Claro que si.  Ya saben que no puedo ir a California sin traerme (o en este caso mandarme por paqueteria) dos cajas llenas de cositas para coser.

¡Miren! Tantas cosas para ser creativa.

I really can't decide which fabric is my favorite.  I have plenty of ideas of what to do with them.  See that plaid stack?  I think those will be transformed into button down shirts for Ri.  The trim?  I might add it to a skirt or dress for A, but it could easily work as a trim for a throw pillow or a cute tote bag.  And all that elastic?  Well trust me, I needed a large roll (which I got for $3.  YEA!) for all those tutus I am constantly making.  And one can never have two many buttons, don't you think?  Or thread.  I love using the serger rolls, they last forever.  I place them on my make shift stand (a wooden choo choo train stand with two dowels, that I temporarily {ahem} borrowed from my kiddies.  It fits the rolls perfectly. ) Then I thread it to a mug hook I have on the wall and back down to my sewing machine were I thread everything just as one should.  Ingenuity I tell ya!  lol.  I'm still waiting for my hubby to make me a stand.  I'm also waiting for some day to own a serger.  It would make my life much easier.  But no complaints here.  *Hint, hint honey.*

 La verdad que se me hace difícil decidir cual es mi tela favorita.  Tengo mas que suficientes ideas de que hacer con ellas.  ¿Ves el montón de telas con diseño de cuadros?  Creo que esa las convertiré en camisas de botón para mi nene.   ¿Y los encajes?  Me gustan para añadirlos en alguna falda de mi nene.  ¿O que tal para unos cojines o bolsa?  ¿El elástico?  Jeje.  Necesitaba chico rollote (que solo me costo $3.  ¡Increible!) para todas las faldas estilo bailarina (tutus) que coso seguido.  Y uno nunca puede tener botones e hilo de mas, ¿no crees?  Aunque no tengo maquina serger, me gusta usar los hilos, pues me duran un mucho.  Los pongo en una plataforma que me invente (una parte de un tren de madera que me prestaron los nenes.  ajem.)  Tiene dos palitos donde inserto cada rollo, luego lo paso por un gancho que tengo en la pared, y despues sigo pasando el hilo por la  maquina como deve de ser.   ¡Ingenio!  A ver cuando me hace mi marido la plataforma.  Claro que también me gustaría tener una maquina serger.  Pero bueno, no duele soñar, ¿verdad? 

Anywho, I seemed to have changed the subject there briefly. Hehe. Now really, I can't wait to start sewing.  See you later.

Mami has been working very hard for the last few weeks sewing pillows, curtains, bed skirts, etc. to make my sweet A's bedroom pretty. I've also been shopping around for nice pieces of furniture and I've been lucky to find some at great prices. Like a white book shelf I got at Target on Clearance. Yey! (Gotta have a book shelf for all those nice libros (books) mami reads to her at night.) The room is not completely done yet, but it sure is getting there. And I am loving it! I just hope she likes it as much as I do...I guess her cute little words of "mami mine" and then followed by some yummy kisses, is her sweet little way of saying she does. Love it!
:: Me la he pasado cosiendo como nunca estas ultimas semanas. Cosiendo cojines, cortinas, un olan para la cama y mucho mas, para terminar de decorar la recamara de mi linda A. También me la he pasado de tienda en tienda buscando unos cuantos mueblecillos que nos hacían falta para su recamara. Y he tenido la suerte de encontrar varios a muy buen precio. Como el librero blanco que compre en Target en oferta. (Como no tener un mueble especial para todos esos libros que mami le lee antes de ir a dormir.) Todavía me falta por terminar, pero hasta ahora me encanta como esta quedando todo. Solo espero que a mi linda A le guste tanto como a mi...bueno, creo que sus lindas palabras "mami mine" (mami, mio) y sus dulces besos es su manera encantadora de decirme que si. Me encanta!



p.s I really need to reorganize my craft room/guest bedroom. See the table? It triples as my sewing, crafting and coupon clipping/organizing table. Phew!
:: Necesito volver a organizar mi estudio/cuarto de huéspedes. Ven la mesa? La uso para tantas cosas. Para coser, crear crafts (tarjetas, dibujos, albums) y para cortar y organizar todos mis cupones. Hijole!

addiction II :: adiccion II

Did you think that was all the fabric I got a hold of on my last trip to CA? Oh, no. You just wait and see...
:: A poco creías que esas eran todas las telas que me traje de California? O, no, claro que no. Ya veras...


Yes, this and more! There is no way I can go to CA and not take a trip to my favorite Swap Meet (Flea Market for those on the East Coast). Drive in Mission Swapmeet in Montclair. There I can find row after row of wonderful fabric at such great deals, that really it just makes it hard for me to go buy elsewhere. So every time I am in town my mom knows that one Wednesday (the day you will find the most fabric vendors) out of my trip, we will rise early, lather ourselves with tons of sunblock and fill bottle after bottle with water and head out fabric shopping. I love it! I love walking through the rows of fabric vendors. They are full of color. And the deals! Oh my, the deals! I can find great fabric for a dollar a yard. Seriously! And if you are a regular, like my mom, they will throw in some free fabric here and there. I mean, how can I resist.
:: Estas y muchas mas! La verdad que no hay manera de visitar a mi familia en California y no pasar por mi lugar favorito para comprar telas. En el Drive in Mission Swapmeet de Montclair, encuentras todo tipo de telas a tan buen precio que se me hace difícil gastar mi dinero en otra parte. Es que mi mama ya sabe que cada ves que la visite uno de los miércoles (el día para encontrar la mejor selección de telas), madrugaremos, nos cubriremos de crema para protección al sol y llenaremos botellas de agua y saldremos hacia el swapmeet (es tipo tianguis). Me encanta! Me encanta caminar por todas las hileras llenas de telas, botones, cierres, encajes, y mas. Todo se ve tan colorido y alegre. Y no nada mas eso, si no que los precios están super. Puedo encontrar telas hasta un dolar la yarda. Enserio! Y si vas seguido como mi mama lo suele hacer, asta te relagan pedazos de tela. La verdad ni como resistir!

The next best place to go shopping for fabric in Southern CA...The Fabric District in Los Angeles! I don't go there as often unless I am looking for something specific (like when we were searching fabric for my sister's wedding or when I bought the fabric for my own wedding gown...yes, I made my own gown! Very proud woman here!!!) Now the fabric district has everything and anything you might be looking for. From buttons to lace.
:: El segundo lugar mejor para comprar telas en el Sur de California es el Distrito de las telas en Los Angeles. No voy muy seguido, apenas de que este buscando algo especifico (como cuando buscamos telas para la boda de mi hermana, oh cuando compre la tela para mi vestido de novia. Si yo me lo hice. Super orgullosa eh!!) En el distrito de las telas encuentras de todo y lo mas reciente. De botones a encajes.

By the way...I also managed to take some vintage kids patterns from my mom's collection. I gotta take pictures of those...they are adorable!!!
:: Ah....también me traje de la casa de mi mama unos cuantos patrones antiguos para ropita de niños. Luego les tomo unas cuantas fotos. Estan super!

Now do you understand why it is hard for me to shop at places like Joann's or Hancock Fabric's. Unfortunately, sometimes I do visit those stores (like just last week when I was looking or some fabric for A's curtains), since those are really the only places to shop around here. How I wish I could find a great fabric store where I live! Do you have a favorite fabric shop/place?
:: Ahora entiendes porque se me hace tan difícil gastar mi dinero en lugares como Joann's o Hancock Fabrics. Desafortuandamente hay veces que si tengo que comprar telas ahí (como la semana pasada cuando necesite mas tela para las cortinas para el la recamara de A). Como me gustaría encontrar un buen lugar por donde vivo donde vendan buena selección de telas a buen precio! Que tal tu? Tienes algún lugar favorito para comprar telas?

Have a ever told you I have a fabric addiction.? Oh do I! This wonderful habit I inherited from my sweet mami. Yes, she has bins and bins full of fabric waiting to be transformed into something wonderful. So every time I visit I have fun going through her bins filled with fabrics of every color, texture and pattern you can imagine. Some she has had for so long they are now considered vintage. Ha. So this last time I was there I had to but go through her bins and pick some little bits of fabric to bring back home. Aren't they fun? Mos of these I plan to use to make my little nenes some play clothe. I can see that pink one up there as some sort of princess dress. And those shiny silver and gold pieces I might use to make some super hero outfits. The possibilities are endless!
:: Te he contado que las telas son mi gran adicción? Grandisima! Esta adicción la herede de mi querida mami. En su casa encuentras caja, tras caja llenas de telas esperando a ser transformadas a algo maravilloso. Cada vez que la visito me divierto abriendo cada caja y encontrar en ellas telas de todos los colores, sabores, texturas y diseños. Es que esta ultima vez que los visite me traje unas cuantas de sus telas. Te gustan? Planeo de usar la mayoría de ellas para hacerle disfraces para jugar a mis nenes. Esa tela rosita me gusta para coser un vestidito de princesa y las telas brillosas de color oro y plata me gustan para hacer algunos disfraces de super héroes. Las posibilidades son infinitas!

Weekend Sewing and more:: Un fin desemana cosiendo y mas

It was a lovely weekend indeed, including the weather. I started off Saturday morning by making an art apron for one of little R's friend. And later in the day we headed off to the birthday party that was heald by a lake. It was perfect. The kids played in the huge sand box, walked on the mini boardwalk and ate some yummy birthday cupcakes.
:: Nos pasamos un fin de semana agradable. Hasta el clima estaba agradable. Empece el sábado por la mañana cosiendo un mandil de arte para un amigito de mi pequeño R. Y después mas tarde nos fuimos a la fiesta de cumpleaños, cual fue a la orilla de un lago precioso. Estaba perfecto. Los niños jugaron en una área de arena super grande, caminaron a la orilla del lago y comieron unos ricos pastelitos de cumpleaños.

Sunday was dedicated again solely to yard work. R put up a fence to separate the back part of the yard and keep Kaya (our lab/shepperd mix dog) away from the veggie garden. Though she does not eat the plants, she sure loves to run around and over them. Not good.
:: El domingo lo dedicamos otra vez al jardín. R puso una cerca para dividir la parte trasera del jardín y no dejar pasar a Kaya (nuestra perra) al jardín de verduras, pues aunque no se come las plantas si le gusta mucho correr y brincar sobre el jardín.

Today is a rainy, rainy day. Though I have tones of errand to make, I think we are staying in. Instead I plan to catch up on some chores around the house and maybe even start sewing a new birthday gift (lot's of birthday's this month!).
:: Hoy es un día lluvioso. Tenia que salir, pero creo que mejor nos quedamos en casa y hago algunos quiaceres que necesitaba hacer, como empezar a coser otro regalito (hay muchos cumples este mes).

I used some vintage fabric I found at a Goodwill a while back. Aren't the hippos adorable?
:: Use una tela "vintage" que compre hace tiempo en una tienda de segunda. Apoco no están super curiosos los hipopótamos?




Little R helped me make the birthday card. We took some scrap paper. Little R colored it with colored pencils and then I finished it with wrapping paper scraps.
:: Mi pequeño R me ayudo con la tarjeta de Cumpleaños. Usamos un pedazo de papel que teníamos por ahi, después mi peque la colorió y luego yo la termine añadiendo unos detallitos con pedazos de papel para envolver que nos quedo.











Aren't they lovely? My hydrangea bush did just wonderfyl this year. I've cut a few and placed them around the house. I love them!
:: No están preciosas? Mi arbusto de hortensias floreció precioso esta primavera. Corte unas cuantas y las he puesto por diferentes partes de mi casa para disfrutarlas mas. Me fascinan!
