He's been working on that bead necklace for a while now. This was the first time I let him use a needle. He did such a great job keeping it away from his face and kept trying threading it every time the thread would slip out (which was A LOT!). He finally caught on. I am so proud of him!
:: A estado trabajando en ese collar ya hace tiempo. Pero esta fue la primera vez que lo deje usar una aguja. La uso muy bien, siempre teniendo cuidado de mantenerla lejos de su cara y volviendo a hilar la cada vez que se caía el hilo (cual fue una multitud de veces!). Pero pronto aprendió. Estoy muy orgullosa de el.

Those cute little monkey p.j. pants are for my sweet little A. I created a pattern out of newspaper, tracing a pair of p.j. bottoms she already has. (Something I learned from my dear Mami and a great way of repurpesing what I have.) I'm also makin her another pair out of some old p.j. bottoms of mine that have shrunk just a bit too much.
:: Esas pijamitas curiositas de monitos son para mi linda A. Use de patron unos pantalones de ella y los trace en papel periodico (algo que aprendi de mi querida mama). Tambien le estoy haciendo otras de unos pantalones mios que se han encojido de mas. Esta es una gran manera de buscarle un nuevo uso a lo que uno ya tiene.

By the way, Ri loved his gymnastics class. He had a great time!
...and I? I forgot to put the disk back on my camera to take pictures! Yes, I did that! Duh! Fortunately I have a phone camera (which really takes horrible pictures, but it served its purpose) to be able to show Papi how Ri did.

...y yo? Yo estaba super enojada porque se me olvido ponerle el disco a mi camara! Si se me olvido! Afortunadamente tengo camara en mi celular, pero la calidad de las fotos son pesimas, pero no importa pues lo mas importante hera que Papi pudiera ver las fotos.

In trying to keep with my Latin Heritage and showering my kids with experiences of my cultura (and theirs), this weekend we attended the "Que Pasa" festival in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. There aren't many Latinos where we live and very few cultural events of the sort. So when they come around...WE GO!
:: Para mi es muy importante enseñarles a mis nenes acerca de mi cultura latina (al igual que es parte de ellos) y por lo tanto este fin de semana asistimos al evento "Que Pasa" en celebración del mes de la Hispanidad a qui en los Estados Unidos. Acá donde vivo no hay mucho latino, ni tampoco muchos eventos de este tipo, es que cuando los hay...ahí estamos!

Statewide Highschools were part of the piñata competition. They had to come-up with the most creative eco-friendly piñata. Our favorite was the one you can see at the beginning of this post.
:: Las diversas preparatorias del estado compitieron en crear la mejor piñata que representara el cuidar nuestro mundo. La que mas nos gusto fue la que ven al principio del post.



Our favorite part was the Latin Ballet. When little A is old enough I want her to take clases with them. They are great!
:: Nuestra parte favorita fue el ballet latino. Cuando A este un poco mas grande planeo inscribirla en las clases. Me encantan!

I also organized my studio/guest bedroom a bit more. I started by covering a hideous tack board with a nice red flower fabric a tia (aunt) of mine gave me this last time I was in California. Gracias Tía I!
:: También organice mi estudio/cuarto de huespedes un poco. Para empezar, cubrí una de esas tablas de corcho con una tela roja de flores que una tía me regalo esta ultima vez que fui a California. Gracias tía I!

And I made some yummy broccoly and corn cream soup for the first time. I mixed two recipes and added a little bit of my own to make the soup. The kids loved it!
:: Y cocine una rica sopa de crema de brocoli con maíz por primera ves. Use dos diferentes recetas y a la ves añadí unos cuantos toquesitos míos. Le encanto a los niños!


Tomorrow is Ri's first day of gymnastics class. He is so excited... and so am I!
:: Mañana es el primer día de clases de gimnasia de mi pequeño Ri. Esta super emocionado...y yo también!

Of what I've finished so far for A's room.

...one of the several pillow I have made for her (reusing the inside of old pillows I already had). The white one was mine when I was a teenager and the rocking chair cushion my mom made. She also made the one it had before when it was in Ri's room. This chair holds some very special bonding moments. I have nursed, hugged, squeesed, and inhaled some delicious baby smells on this rocking chair. Now it has become one of our favorite reading spots.
::...esta es uno de los varios cojines que le he cosido (usando la parte de adentro de cojines viejos). El blanco era mio de cuando era adolescente y el cojín de la poltrona mi mama lo cosió. También cosió el que tenia antes, cuando la poltrona estaba en la recamara de Ri. Muchos lindos recuerdos han pasado en esta poltrona. En ella amamante a mis dos nenes. Ahora es uno de nuestros lugares favoritos para leer.

The first set of curtains I made for her windows. I used the fabric I had on hand, but I wasn't happy with the end result. So I made a second pair...
:: El primer par de cortinas que le cosí. No me gustaron y pues le cosí un segundo par...

What do you think? Do you like it so far? And isn't that blue on the walls just beautiful and peaceful? It took me several trials to get just the right color.

...In hopes that a little cup of tea will make me feel better. We are sick once more (and again R has somehow manages to stay healthy). Hopefully this time it is just a little cold.

Mami has been working very hard for the last few weeks sewing pillows, curtains, bed skirts, etc. to make my sweet A's bedroom pretty. I've also been shopping around for nice pieces of furniture and I've been lucky to find some at great prices. Like a white book shelf I got at Target on Clearance. Yey! (Gotta have a book shelf for all those nice libros (books) mami reads to her at night.) The room is not completely done yet, but it sure is getting there. And I am loving it! I just hope she likes it as much as I do...I guess her cute little words of "mami mine" and then followed by some yummy kisses, is her sweet little way of saying she does. Love it!
:: Me la he pasado cosiendo como nunca estas ultimas semanas. Cosiendo cojines, cortinas, un olan para la cama y mucho mas, para terminar de decorar la recamara de mi linda A. También me la he pasado de tienda en tienda buscando unos cuantos mueblecillos que nos hacían falta para su recamara. Y he tenido la suerte de encontrar varios a muy buen precio. Como el librero blanco que compre en Target en oferta. (Como no tener un mueble especial para todos esos libros que mami le lee antes de ir a dormir.) Todavía me falta por terminar, pero hasta ahora me encanta como esta quedando todo. Solo espero que a mi linda A le guste tanto como a mi...bueno, creo que sus lindas palabras "mami mine" (mami, mio) y sus dulces besos es su manera encantadora de decirme que si. Me encanta!



p.s I really need to reorganize my craft room/guest bedroom. See the table? It triples as my sewing, crafting and coupon clipping/organizing table. Phew!
:: Necesito volver a organizar mi estudio/cuarto de huéspedes. Ven la mesa? La uso para tantas cosas. Para coser, crear crafts (tarjetas, dibujos, albums) y para cortar y organizar todos mis cupones. Hijole!

addiction II :: adiccion II

Did you think that was all the fabric I got a hold of on my last trip to CA? Oh, no. You just wait and see...
:: A poco creías que esas eran todas las telas que me traje de California? O, no, claro que no. Ya veras...


Yes, this and more! There is no way I can go to CA and not take a trip to my favorite Swap Meet (Flea Market for those on the East Coast). Drive in Mission Swapmeet in Montclair. There I can find row after row of wonderful fabric at such great deals, that really it just makes it hard for me to go buy elsewhere. So every time I am in town my mom knows that one Wednesday (the day you will find the most fabric vendors) out of my trip, we will rise early, lather ourselves with tons of sunblock and fill bottle after bottle with water and head out fabric shopping. I love it! I love walking through the rows of fabric vendors. They are full of color. And the deals! Oh my, the deals! I can find great fabric for a dollar a yard. Seriously! And if you are a regular, like my mom, they will throw in some free fabric here and there. I mean, how can I resist.
:: Estas y muchas mas! La verdad que no hay manera de visitar a mi familia en California y no pasar por mi lugar favorito para comprar telas. En el Drive in Mission Swapmeet de Montclair, encuentras todo tipo de telas a tan buen precio que se me hace difícil gastar mi dinero en otra parte. Es que mi mama ya sabe que cada ves que la visite uno de los miércoles (el día para encontrar la mejor selección de telas), madrugaremos, nos cubriremos de crema para protección al sol y llenaremos botellas de agua y saldremos hacia el swapmeet (es tipo tianguis). Me encanta! Me encanta caminar por todas las hileras llenas de telas, botones, cierres, encajes, y mas. Todo se ve tan colorido y alegre. Y no nada mas eso, si no que los precios están super. Puedo encontrar telas hasta un dolar la yarda. Enserio! Y si vas seguido como mi mama lo suele hacer, asta te relagan pedazos de tela. La verdad ni como resistir!

The next best place to go shopping for fabric in Southern CA...The Fabric District in Los Angeles! I don't go there as often unless I am looking for something specific (like when we were searching fabric for my sister's wedding or when I bought the fabric for my own wedding gown...yes, I made my own gown! Very proud woman here!!!) Now the fabric district has everything and anything you might be looking for. From buttons to lace.
:: El segundo lugar mejor para comprar telas en el Sur de California es el Distrito de las telas en Los Angeles. No voy muy seguido, apenas de que este buscando algo especifico (como cuando buscamos telas para la boda de mi hermana, oh cuando compre la tela para mi vestido de novia. Si yo me lo hice. Super orgullosa eh!!) En el distrito de las telas encuentras de todo y lo mas reciente. De botones a encajes.

By the way...I also managed to take some vintage kids patterns from my mom's collection. I gotta take pictures of those...they are adorable!!!
:: Ah....también me traje de la casa de mi mama unos cuantos patrones antiguos para ropita de niños. Luego les tomo unas cuantas fotos. Estan super!

Now do you understand why it is hard for me to shop at places like Joann's or Hancock Fabric's. Unfortunately, sometimes I do visit those stores (like just last week when I was looking or some fabric for A's curtains), since those are really the only places to shop around here. How I wish I could find a great fabric store where I live! Do you have a favorite fabric shop/place?
:: Ahora entiendes porque se me hace tan difícil gastar mi dinero en lugares como Joann's o Hancock Fabrics. Desafortuandamente hay veces que si tengo que comprar telas ahí (como la semana pasada cuando necesite mas tela para las cortinas para el la recamara de A). Como me gustaría encontrar un buen lugar por donde vivo donde vendan buena selección de telas a buen precio! Que tal tu? Tienes algún lugar favorito para comprar telas?

Have a ever told you I have a fabric addiction.? Oh do I! This wonderful habit I inherited from my sweet mami. Yes, she has bins and bins full of fabric waiting to be transformed into something wonderful. So every time I visit I have fun going through her bins filled with fabrics of every color, texture and pattern you can imagine. Some she has had for so long they are now considered vintage. Ha. So this last time I was there I had to but go through her bins and pick some little bits of fabric to bring back home. Aren't they fun? Mos of these I plan to use to make my little nenes some play clothe. I can see that pink one up there as some sort of princess dress. And those shiny silver and gold pieces I might use to make some super hero outfits. The possibilities are endless!
:: Te he contado que las telas son mi gran adicción? Grandisima! Esta adicción la herede de mi querida mami. En su casa encuentras caja, tras caja llenas de telas esperando a ser transformadas a algo maravilloso. Cada vez que la visito me divierto abriendo cada caja y encontrar en ellas telas de todos los colores, sabores, texturas y diseños. Es que esta ultima vez que los visite me traje unas cuantas de sus telas. Te gustan? Planeo de usar la mayoría de ellas para hacerle disfraces para jugar a mis nenes. Esa tela rosita me gusta para coser un vestidito de princesa y las telas brillosas de color oro y plata me gustan para hacer algunos disfraces de super héroes. Las posibilidades son infinitas!

yesterday... :: ayer...

Was a wonderful day spend outside taking in some of the early signs of fall. It was a bit cold for this time of year, I mean we actually had to put on some pants! (Though I love fall, I don't think I am quite ready for it yet. Because with fall comes winter and winter I can sure do without.) Our yard was full of pine needles, some leaves and well...we took advantage and made some little brooms. Both Ri and A loved them. And after some play time we relaxed on the oh so very loved hammock.
:: Disfrutamos un día maravilloso afuera en nuestro jardín, saboreando de un poco de lo que nos queda de verano (estaba un poco mas fresco de lo normal, recordándonos que el otoño llega pronto, por lo cual no quiero, pues después del otoño sigue el invierno, y el invierno no me gusta mucho). El jardín estaba lleno de agujas del los arboles de pino y unas cuantas hojas caídas. Tomamos ventaja, y construimos con las agujas de pino unas escobitas para que Ri y A jugaran. Y después de jugar un buen rato nos relajamos en nuestra hamaca favorita.




Oh, sweet summer don't leave us so quickly that we still have some pool, hot, ice cream sticky days left in us!
